First Grade Happenings March18, 2016 Reading Math We asked and answered questions about key details in The Pied Piper. We also identified words and phrases in stories that suggested feelings. We applied addition strategies to develop fluency within ten. We created and solved story problems, identifying the known and unknown in different positions. Writing Science We wrote an opinion piece on the best material with which to build a home. We also wrote a character trait that best described the Pied Piper. We identified various building objects on the playground and the materials from which each is made. We incorporated properties of materials used to make human-made features in the design of a new playground. Social Studies FIELD TRIP Everyone has turned in their permission slips to the National Zoo on May 12. We described why and how people protect the environment. We described actions people can take to protect the environment. Please send in an extra pair of clothes for your child to keep at school. The Health Room has a very limited supply of extra clothes on hand. Your child’s teacher will be in touch with volunteers soon.
