First Grade Happenings March 4, 2016 Reading Math We read several poems this week. “Above, Below”, “Lady Liberty”, “Mountain Men” to name a few. We asked and answered questions about what the poems main topic and key details were. We also read several Dr. Seuss stories in different first grade classrooms! We learned a few new math centers to help us develop fluency with addition and subtraction within 10. Writing Science We completed our informative texts about features of Yellowstone National Park. We focused on the vegetation, animals, bodies of water, climate, and landforms. We also wrote about relative distances on a map of our school. We observed the school yard and recorded natural and human-made features found outside. We used this information to create a map of Greenwood. Social Studies FIELD TRIP Permission slips were sent home on Thursday, February 25. These are due 3/9. We also solved some fun story problems for our Dr. Seuss themed week! We created a map of Greenwood after we walked around the school yard taking notes about the different features. We used a description of Maryland Long Ago to create a map of what Maryland used to look Please send in an extra pair of clothes for your child to keep at school.
