First Grade Happenings February 19, 2016 Reading Math We used information in text and in pictures to help learn about places on the map. We used key details from the text to describe our place on the map. We continued our nonstandard measurement unit. We ordered and described the lengths of objects in the classroom. We are using words short, shorter, shortest, long, longer, longest, tall, taller, tallest and about the same. Writing Science We wrote informative text about different places on the map. We gathered information about our Earth, our continent, our country, our state and town. We used technology and books to find information about these places. We identified and examined Earth materials that make up our planet. We identified natural and human-made features of the Earth. Social Studies FIELD TRIP First Grade will be taking a field trip to the National Zoo on Thursday, May 12. Please be on the lookout for a permission slip coming home next week! We described where places are located on a map using cardinal directions. We used photographs and pictures to describe a place. We also identified a place using a bird’s eye view. Please send in an extra pair of clothes for your child to keep at school. The Health Room has a very limited supply of extra clothes on hand.
