First Grade Happenings
February 19, 2016
Reading
Math
We used information in text and in
pictures to help learn about places on the
map. We used key details from the text to
describe our place on the map.
We continued our nonstandard measurement
unit. We ordered and described the lengths of
objects in the classroom. We are using words
short, shorter, shortest, long, longer, longest,
tall, taller, tallest and about the same.
Writing
Science
We wrote informative text about different
places on the map. We gathered information
about our Earth, our continent, our country,
our state and town. We used technology and
books to find information about these places.
We identified and examined Earth
materials that make up our planet.
We identified natural and human-made
features of the Earth.
Social Studies
FIELD TRIP
First Grade will be taking a field trip to the
National Zoo on Thursday, May 12. Please
be on the lookout for a permission slip
coming home next week!
We described where places are located on
a map using cardinal directions. We used
photographs and pictures to describe a
place. We also identified a place using a
bird’s eye view.
Please send in an extra pair of clothes for your child to
keep at school. The Health Room has a very limited
supply of extra clothes on hand.
