First Grade Happenings February 5, 2016 Reading Math We asked and answered questions to help determine the meaning of a word in a text and key details in a text. We used pictures and words to see information provided We began our nonstandard measurement unit. We ordered and described the lengths of objects in the classroom. We also made Pipe Cleaner Pals to compare lengths. We are using words short, shorter, shortest, long, longer, longest, tall, taller, tallest and about the same. Writing Science We finished our events writings. We identified objects as magnetic or nonmagnetic based on their behavior in the presence of a magnet. We also described how a variety of magnets affect the strength of a magnet. We began shared research on using our five senses to make identify and select foods. We will write informative texts during this part of the new marking period. Health/Social Studies We used our five senses to describe our favorite foods. We also learned how food keeps the body healthy. We used choosemyplate.gov to examine the food groups. Valentine’s Day Parties will be celebrated on Friday, February 15 from 2:15-3:15. Students should bring their non-addressed Valentines to school on Friday morning. We will distribute them before the party. Please contact your child’s room parent if you would like more information. Please remember to check your child’s planner daily. The planner has daily marks about your child’s behavior in the classroom, as well as important upcoming events.
