First Grade Happenings
February 5, 2016
Reading
Math
We asked and answered questions to help
determine the meaning of a word in a text
and key details in a text.
We used pictures and words to see
information provided
We began our nonstandard measurement unit.
We ordered and described the lengths of objects in the classroom. We also made Pipe
Cleaner Pals to compare lengths. We are using
words short, shorter, shortest, long, longer,
longest, tall, taller, tallest and about the same.
Writing
Science
We finished our events writings.
We identified objects as magnetic or nonmagnetic based on their behavior in the
presence of a magnet.
We also described how a variety of magnets affect the strength of a magnet.
We began shared research on using our five
senses to make identify and select foods.
We will write informative texts during this
part of the new marking period.
Health/Social Studies
We used our five senses to describe our
favorite foods. We also learned how food
keeps the body healthy.
We used choosemyplate.gov to
examine the food groups.
Valentine’s Day Parties will be celebrated
on Friday, February 15 from 2:15-3:15.
Students should bring their non-addressed
Valentines to school on Friday morning. We
will distribute them before the party.
Please contact your child’s room parent if
you would like more information.
Please remember to check your child’s planner daily.
The planner has daily marks about your
child’s behavior in the classroom,
as well as important upcoming events.
