First Grade Happenings January 15, 2016 Reading Math We identified the main topic and key details in The World of Bread. We also read My Neighborhood. We used sentence-level context as a clue to the meaning We added three whole numbers whose sum is less than 20 by recording equations for 3-car trains that equal 10. We also used a math center called “Make 12” to make equations with three addends to make a total of 12. Writing Science We finished up our sequenced event writing about living in a snow globe! We are using our homework assignment to write about events from our past. With complete sentences we are describing people, places, and things in our writings.. We identified objects as magnetic or nonmagnetic based on their behavior in the presence of a magnet. We also described how a variety of magnets affect the strength of a magnet. Social Studies We examined photographs of the past and compared them to current photographs of similar images. Winter MClass Reading Assessments Our assessment window has opened this month for our Winter MClass Reading Assessments. Please remember to check your child’s planner daily. The planner has daily marks about your child’s behavior in the classroom, as well as important upcoming events.
