First Grade Happenings January 8, 2016 Reading Math We identified the main topic and key details in the image “Wasilla, Alaska.” We used details in a text to describe key ideas in Then and Now. We also read informational texts, including Time For Kids articles. We continued to work on strategies to solve addition and subtraction story problems. We developed fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Check out this website for more practice: http://www.mathplayground.com/number_bonds_10.html Writing Science We wrote about events during our winter break. We added details to our sequences events. We are currently working on a sequenced event writing about living in a snow globe! We asked questions about how magnets affect objects. We described how magnets are used in everyday life. Social Studies We examined photographs of the past and compared them to current photographs of similar images. Winter MClass Reading Assessments Our assessment window has opened this month for our Winter MClass Reading Assessments. Please remember to check your child’s planner daily. The planner has daily marks about your child’s behavior in the classroom, as well as important upcoming events.
