First Grade Happenings December 11, 2015 Reading Math We read Henny Penny and The True Story of The Three Little Pigs. We compared the experiences on the characters in the stories. We also described the characters, setting, and major events using key details. We continued to work on strategies to solve addition and subtraction equations. We used the strategies of doubles, doubles plus one, counting on, and counting back. Writing Science We wrote a book review for a book we recently read in the classroom. We shared our opinion and supplied a reason for our opinion. We also wrote an opinion piece about the wolf from the play we saw. We built ramps to observe the motion of cars. We also identified push and pull forces behind a change of motion. Social Studies We identified how families share and borrow customs and traditions from other cultures. We learned about different versions of Hopscotch Around the World. HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT An Events from the Past Homework Assignment is coming home on Monday. It will be due Wednesday, January 6. Please remember to check your child’s planner daily. The planner has daily marks about your child’s behavior in the classroom, as well as important upcoming events.
