First Grade Happenings

Reading
Math
We read The Ugly Vegetables and Muncha,
Muncha, Muncha. We compared the
experiences on the characters in the
stories. We also decribed the characters,
setting, and major events using key details.
We learned various strategies to solve
addition and subtraction equations. We
used the strategies of doubles, doubles
plus one, counting on, and counting back.
Writing
Science
We continued to write informative texts
about our needs and wants.
We began an opinion piece about the best
book we have read in the classroom
recently.
We described the movement of
the objects.
We also demonstrated ways in which an
object’s motion can be changed.
Social Studies
We discussed some customs around the
world. We also described the way people in
their community meet human needs.
