Week of October 23rd

First Grade Happenings
October 23, 2015
Reading
Math
We continued reading informational texts.
We asked and answered questions about
food chains and when animals leave home.
We also read Eva the Beekeeper.
This week we solved story problems by drawing
a picture to show our work, and writing an
equation.
We also began to collect, organize,
represent, and interpret data in various
graphs.
Writing
Science
We continued to write informative texts
about a given topic.
We also wrote an opinion piece that names
a book and supplies a reason for the
opinion.
We grouped animals by how they satisfy
their need for food. We also used
information to compare descriptions for
how animals stay safe in their
environment.
Social Studies
Other
We identified and discussed the meanings
of common United States symbols.
We also described how saying the “Pledge
of Allegiance” is associated with being a
citizen of the United States.
Field Trip permission slips went home last
week. Please complete and send back to school!
Also, next week is Red Ribbon Week. Please
refer to the flyer that went home on
Wednesday for the various Spirit Days.
Please remember to check your child’s planner daily.
The planner has daily marks about your
child’s behavior in the classroom,
as well as important upcoming events.
