5th Grade newsletter
Room Parents Needed!!!
Are you interested in being a room parent? Please let your child’s teacher know if
you have the time to be involved in the classroom. We will be celebrating
throughout the year so be on the look-out for donations needed for the classroom!

This school year we will discuss and analyze the different genres of literature.
We will begin the year with fifth graders reading and creating adventurous
stories. We will focus on character traits, theme, point of view and structure
of adventure stories.
Everyday students will work towards multiplication fluency! This
month we will first be working on multiplying using the s tandard
algorithm. We will later practice calculating volumeonregular and
irregular rectangular prisms by using the formula (v=l xwxh).Have
your child practice multiplication facts at home to help buildtheir
number sense. Students who build a soli d foundation perform
better in middle and high school mathematics!
In science, we are working on force and motion and understanding Newton’s three laws of gravity as
well as, identify, describe and observe motion of objects using distance, travel, direction, and speed.
During the first week of social studies, we will learn how to resolve conflicts through problem solving
and compromising. For the remaining weeks of September, students will learn about colonial
economies and colonial ways of living. Students will explore interactions between colonists and Britain
prior to, during, and after the French and Indian War as well as examine reactions and viewpoints of
colonists/British to changes in British Royal Government policies.
