5th Grade newsletter Highlights and events!!! Remember to check Wednesday Folders and Student Planners! Field Trip to Ft. McHenry in Baltimore on Friday, November 6, 2015. Magnet and Choice middle school applications are currently available; Deadline to submit is December 11th. As we begin the second quarter, students will continue to strengthen their knowledge and use of reading strategies. Students will also identify the characteristics of myths, describe writer’s point of view and how it influences the text, and explore literary devices such as idioms and foreshadowing. Students will also identify theme, make inferences and participate in collaborative discussions about the use of figurative language. Students will end the quarter by reading a variety of mysteries. Everyday students are working towards multiplication fluency! Students will dividetwodigit by two digit and two digit by four digit numerals using the area model and rectangular arrays. Students will also add and subtract fractions as well as multiply fractions by whole numbers. In science, students will investigate electricity and magnetism through a variety of experiments. Students will also have an opportunity to construct their very own electromagnet! In social studies, students will continue to analyze the events that led to American Revolution. Students will examine how our current governing structure was created through collaborative discussions about the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Right and the Constitution.
