CURRENT PE NEWS

We are moving and grooving in P.E.! Just a friendly reminder that
everyone needs to wear their sneakers to P.E. so that we can stay
SAFE!
In September, 3rd through 5th graders will be working on their
basketball skills. 3rd graders will be working on dribbling while avoiding
an opponent. 4th graders will be working on passing the ball, and 5th
graders will be working on their “set shot.” At the end of September
and into October 3rd through 5th graders will be working on their
overhand throwing. We will focus on using SLOT (Side to target, arm
in an L, stepping with Opposition, and Twisting). We will also be working
on our catching by using the acronym WRAP (Watch, Reach, And Pull
into your body) In this unit we will focus not only using proper
throwing and catching technique, but also analyzing a partner’s skill as
we work through the “Magic Club” program. At the end of October, 3rd
through 5th graders will start working on dance to get ready for our
15th annual Hoedown. Throughout the whole first marking period 3 rd
through 5th grade students will develop an understanding of how to
take their pulse, how to determine whether they are working in their
Target Heart Rate Zone, and what exercises fall under the 5 fitness
components.
In September K-2nd graders will be working on moving through the
room safely while using different locomotor movement in different
directions and pathways. We will end September by working dribbling
a ball with our hands and our feet. We will see some similarities
between the two types of dribbling by focusing on keep the ball close
to us and under control, and trying to keep our head up as we dribble.
We will end October by working on rolling, and underhand tossing a ball
(K-1) and throwing a ball (2nd). We will also work on catching while
performing self-tosses and playing catch with the wall, and a partner.
Throughout the whole first marking period K-2 students will work on
demonstrating how to play safe, and fair so that everyone can have
FUN!
