What is PBIS?
PBIS is a school –wide behavior management
system that is consistent, equitable and focused
on positive reinforcement. The objective is to
improve student behavior by instilling the core
values of ………
RESPECT
RESPONSIBILITY
DEDICATION
SAFETY
How do we implement PBIS
at FRES?
The main focus of PBIS is to encourage
and promote students’ positive behaviors.
 By developing a positive student-teacher
relationship
 By creating all school rules that state
what respect, responsibility, dedication
and safety look like in different school
settings.
 By recognizing and encouraging staff who
demonstrate the Core Values.

system
School Rules
1. We will follow directions at all times
2. We will use school and personal property
appropriately
3. We will keep our hands, feet and objects to
ourselves
4. We will take responsibility for our learning
5. We will use appropriate language to communicate
with adults and peers.
Incentives and Rewards
 High Flyer Tickets: used for lunch with administration

:used for lunch with staff

:in class incentives
 Grade level Incentives
 Class Incentives
 Earn class HF – classes earns HF tickets when nonclassroom teachers give the whole class a compliment.
The HF tickets then earn the whole class a reward from
the teacher
 Lunchroom Falcons:
 Quarterly CORE VALUE CELEBRATION- criteria is still
under construction
 Staff High Flyers – Staff give each other high flyer
tickets
Staff High Flyer
Staff can give each other High Flyers when they catch
their colleagues demonstrating the core values.
 Fill them out, place the white copy in the receiving
staff members mailbox, and place the yellow carbon
copy in the yellow bucket in Diyana Sanders’ office.



Every two weeks Kathy will pull two names from
this bucket during Falcon News.
Winners will have a choice of receiving: $5.00
Panera Card, $5.00 Starbucks card or leave early
pass (leaving at 2:30pm)
High Flyer Tickets

When a student is caught being respectful, responsible,
dedicated or safe, that child will receive a Falcon High Flyer
ticket that describes the behavior. Any staff member can give
these tickets out.

One copy of the ticket goes into a classroom bucket, and one
copy goes home with the student.

At the end of each month, during the morning Falcon News,
Kathy, will ask each classroom teacher to pull 2 highflyer
tickets. These kids will have lunch with administration the
following week. The highflyers will also be collected and the
number of tickets earned is entered into the data system to
keep track of how many tickets each child is receiving.

HF can also be pulled by the classroom teacher as an incentive.
For example: to run an errand, to choose kids to have lunch
bunch, to receive treats, etc.
Criteria for giving out High Flyers.
 Give out 3 – 6 high flyers a day
 Every child should get at least 2 high
flyers per quarter
 High Flyers should be completed by a
staff member (do not have fill them
out)
 High Flyers given out to individual
students and not xeroxed and given
out to the whole class.
 Explain to the student why they are
receiving the high flyer
What about Consequences???
Focusing on students’ positive behavior
does not mean that you cannot have
consequences for those students who
break the school rules. Grade level teams
can come up with steps that address
these behaviors. For example: time out
within the classroom, in another
classroom, loss of recess, student writing
a note to parents, call home …….. office
referral.
 Consequence chart

Consequences

1. Warning

2. Time Out One: In the classroom
(Reflection Form-Staff)
3. Time Out Two: Another location
(Reflection Form- Parent Contact)


4. Office Referral

Students in Crisis



Students with severe behavioral concerns
have FBA (functional behavior assessments)
and BIP (behavior intervention plans)
We also make every attempt to work closely
with parents and private mental health
providers to get support for these children.
Provide mentors – in school/community
(depends on the severity of the behavior
issue)
Discipline

The focus of behavior intervention is to guide
students to reflect on their behaviors and make
good choices.

School-Home communication is key to student
success.

The continuum of interventions can be found in
the school discipline policy.
