Dear Farmland Families, I hope that everyone had a wonderful spring break! It was so fabulous to see our children return with exciting tales of their time spent their families, extended family, and friends. Now, we are all set to begin the fourth and final quarter of the school year. This quarter always seems to go as quickly as a blink of an eye- so let’s be sure to take time to enjoy it! The Student Council is sponsoring a “Pennies for Patients” drive at Farmland to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Since 1994, millions of dollars in coins and bills have been raised by schools nationwide to support the Society’s mission of curing blood cancers and improving the quality of life of patients and their families. You can help your children win a pizza party by bringing in your loose change – or dollar bills! -- and putting it in the collection box in your classroom. You can also donate online at http://events.lls.org/pages/nca/FarmlandElementarySchool. Donations are due no later than Friday, April 22nd. At the end of this two-week period, the two classes that have raised the most money will be treated by the Student Council to a pizza party! There will be one winner from grades K-2 and one winner from grades 3-5. Scarecrow's Corner -- Farmland's annual literary and art magazine -- is now seeking submissions from students in all grades. We are accepting poems, short works of prose, drawings and illustrations. All submitted works will be included in the magazine, which we are planning to post online this year via the Farmland PTA website. In order to save paper (and trees), we will distribute hard copies only to students who contribute to the magazine and to teachers of students who contribute. The online version will, of course, be available to everyone. Here are the guidelines for contributing and submitting: -- Submissions should fit within the margins of an 81/2 x11 piece of paper. Each submission must include the name of the student, his or her grade and his or her teacher's name. Drawings should be done in pen or marker so that they will be clearly visible when reproduced. -- Each student is welcome to submit more than one piece of writing or art. There is no theme; just write or draw whatever inspires you. -- Pieces should be submitted electronically to Jen Chaney, the PTA coordinator for Scarecrow's Corner, at [email protected]. In the subject line of your e-mail, please write "Submission for Scarecrow's Corner." Drawings and other works can be scanned and sent as attachments. Works of prose can be pasted directly into the body of the e-mail for those who prefer not to send attachments. -- While e-mail is preferable, hard copies of submissions also will be accepted. Those can be left in the PTA mailbox in the main office. Please place your child's work in envelopes that are clearly labeled Scarecrow's Corner Submission. -- The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, May 4, 2016. We plan to post the magazine online and distribute copies to contributors in early June, prior to the last day of school. If you have additional questions, please email Jen Chaney at [email protected]. Looking forward to seeing all the brilliant art and literary work from our Farmland students! Much appreciation to Jen Chaney for spear heading this major undertaking once again! You are awesome for doing this so students can showcase their creativity for all to enjoy! Our Lost and Found has runneth over with an assortment of jackets, sweaters, hats, and miscellaneous items! We have laid everything out in the main hallway. These items will be on display for children and families to search for missing items through Friday, April 15th. At that point, they will be donated to our sister school or other charity. Please encourage your child to try to locate any missing items or yourself look through the items if you happen to be in the school. A great way to prevent items from being lost is to label your children’s clothing on the clothing labels! “There are always flowers for those who want to see them.” – Henri Matisse Warmest regards for a glorious weekend!
