Dear Farmland Students and Families,
What an incredible first week we have had! Thank you to all of the families that attended the
first PTA Meeting of the year! It was an excellent turnout and we are grateful to all the families
that have already joined the PTA. The school and PTA will be working closely together to
organize events that showcase our children’s academic abilities and provide opportunities to
build social relationships and have fun. The PTA meeting was followed by our annual Back-toSchool Night. It is a favorite event of mine as it is enjoyable to see all the families that we have
not seen for the summer. I hope that you found the sessions informative. Remember if you have
any lingering questions, communication is key. We are here to work together with you to ensure
that your child’s time is happy and successful at Farmland. Thank you so much to Kids After
Hours (KAH) for providing entertainment and daycare for those families that had the need in
order to attend.
This morning, we held our first Principal’s Coffee of the year to welcome our new
families. Thank you to the parents that attended. It was a rewarding discussion of hopes and
concerns for our new students adjusting to many new adjustments at once, new county or state,
new home, new school, new friends to make, and, sometimes even a new language to learn. I
really appreciated the presence of Mrs. Vicki Dunn, PTA VP of Programs and Mrs. Pat Wagner,
long time Farmland parent of fourth and first grade sons. They were able to share their personal
experience of their time at Farmland.
If you have not already done so, I would strongly encourage each family to sign up for MCPS
Quick Notes at http://news.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/quicknotes-home/. This is the easiest and
quickest way to stay in touch with news and information from MCPS, especially regarding
delayed openings or closings due to increment weather.
Wednesday, September 9th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Farmland will be hosting a Family Fun Nights
for Kindergarten through second grade students. Their siblings are welcome as well! KAH will
be on hand to provide entertainment and games for our children. Pizza, Kona Ice, and drinks
will be available for purchase for families if they would like to have refreshments. Our
kindergarten, first, and second grade teachers will be on hand to serve the refreshments and join
in the fun. Please email your classroom teacher to let them know if you are planning to attend
and how many will be in your party so we can order an appropriate amount of food. This is a
wonderful opportunity for children and families to network and build friendships. We hope to
see you there!
Monday, September 7th will be an MCPS school holiday to celebrate Labor Day. We hope you
enjoy your three-day weekend and we look forward to seeing you back at school on Tuesday,
September 8th. Doors will open at 9:10 a.m. I will be looking for your smiling faces!
