The ability to understand someone’s point of view or “stand in their shoes” and know how that person is thinking and feeling. What is Cultural Diversity (kid friendly)? Recognizing and appreciating ways such as customs, beliefs, and traditions that people are alike and different. Counselor Tip for Students: How can I experience empathy and cultural diversity? Introduce yourself to a new student- students new to a school are often nervous. By introducing yourself you can help the new student feel included and welcome. NOVEMBER 2015 VOL. 1 In classroom lessons your child is learning… REVIEW THE CHARACTERISTICS OF BULLYING. IDENTIFY DIFFERENT TYPES OF PUTDOWNS AND HOW TO HANDLE THEM. HOW TO BE A BRAVE BYSTANDER. WE WILL END OUR UNIT WITH DISCUSSING CYBERBULLYING. STUDENTS WILL THEN BEGIN LEARNING ABOUT EMPATHY AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY. STUDENT SERVICE LEARNING- EMPATHY AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY Students are participating in two school wide events which support our community: Canned Food Drive, 11/9/15-11/20/15 Students will bring in non-perishable canned food items which will be donated to our local food bank, Manna, which provides food to families and individuals who need assistance. More information about this worthwhile event will be sent home Pennies for Patients, 12/1/15-12/18/15 Students will collect pennies which will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Please help us, help this great cause which seeks to find a cure for cancer! Collection boxes will be sent home so that students can collect spare change from friends and families.
