HAPPY NEW YEAR Sargent Shriver Families!
Welcome back! I hope everyone had time to relax and
rest with family and friends. This month will be busy
with reading and mathematics assessments so the
teachers can monitor the students’ understanding of content that has been taught since the beginning of the school year. Please make sure your children arrive at school on time daily so we
can adhere to our testing schedule.
At school, we are ready to make 2016 a year filled with success through hard work and dedication by providing students with daily opportunities to grow. Everyone, staff, students, and par-
ents, are all responsible for the hard work that is ahead. Together, I know we can make the remainder of our school year a huge success!
The winter weather has arrived and students at Sargent Shriver go outside for recess during the
cold weather. Please remember to send children to school prepared to go outdoors for recess
with their hats, gloves, and coats. Also, in the event of inclement weather, please be aware of the
many ways you can stay informed of school closings, early dismissals, and late openings. This
information is always provided to local television and radio stations as soon as decisions are
made regarding changes to the school schedule. This information also is posted on the MCPS’
webpage (www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org).
Everyone at Sargent Shriver Elementary School is excited about returning to school and eager
to see our students and their families after the winter break. Thank you for your support with
our students, staff, and each other. You are a valued member of the Sargent Shriver Team!
Respectfully,
Zoraida Brown,
Principal
