Vol 2 No 6 February 2016 Upcoming Events March 11—Parent Coffee at 9 am and Movie Night at 7pm March 23—Parent Engagement Committee at 4pm March 24—April 1—Spring Break Salutations Sargent Shriver Families, It is hard to believe that we are in the 2 nd month of 2016. Time does not wait because it keeps on ticking forward. It is also that time of the year when we must begin looking at the learning benchmarks each student must make to be academically ready for the new school year. To ensure academic readiness for the upcoming school year, teachers and parents must work together to prepare students to thrive in their futures. The impact that parents have on their children’s lives is enormous. The poem below explains how the little things that cost nothing build character in our children. When You Thought I Wasn’t Looking When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you hang up my first painting on the refrigerator, And I wanted to paint another one, When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you feed a stray cat, And I thought it was good to be kind to animals, When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make my favorite cake for me, And I knew that little things are special things, When you thought I wasn't looking, I felt you kiss me good night, And I felt loved, When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw that you cared, And I wanted to be everything that I could be, When you thought I wasn't looking, I LOOKED … And wanted to say thanks for all the things, I saw when you thought I wasn't looking. ~ Author Unknown The poem shares a powerful message. At Sargent Shriver Elementary School, we believe in building positive character traits in our students but we cannot do this without your support. Please continue to help us encourage our students to demonstrate the school’s core values of being responsible, respectful, and ready to learn when they are in school and at home. As always, we are thankful for your continued support! Respectfully, Zoraida Brown, Principal
