Students Who Have Good Attendance Do Well in School
It’s true! We want to remind you of the importance of regular school attendance. Teachers prepare lessons that are sequential and specifically designed to
help students become better readers, writers, and math students. When students
are frequently absent or tardy, it is often difficult for them to grasp key concepts
and catch up. Students become competent and confident learners when they are
attending school daily and on time.
We only want students to be kept at home when there are medical reasons. Please consider scheduling appointments
towards the end of the school day. When these appointments are necessary, please return your child to school as quickly
as possible so that instructional time is not lost.
Parents of students with excessive absences and or chronic tardiness will receive a letter from the school.
Thank you for your support.

Sargent Shriver Staff are Highly Qualified!
Our school is fortunate to receive supplemental funding through Title 1, a federal grant program for schools that serve
communities with students who have high economic needs. The federal legislation that establishes Title 1 regulations is
known as the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB). The NCLB requires Montgomery County Public Schools to inform you that you have the right to request information about the professional certification qualifications of your child’s
teacher, long-term substitute teacher, or educator assistant, formerly titled paraeducator.
If you wish to request certification information about your child’s teacher, educator assistant, or long-term substitute
teacher, please submit a written request to Ms. Brown, the principal. Your written inquiry may include information about
the following qualifications: Degree status and subject area of certification; State of Maryland certification status, including conditional certification status; and qualifications of educator assistants or long-term substitute teachers who may be
working with your child.
Your request will be forwarded to the Office of Human Resources and Development and you will receive a written response from that office within 30 business days. Please contact the office if you have any concerns or questions.
