Important Dates
Dear Parents,
We recognize that you face many challenges
when there are school delays and closings.
Many parents must make last minute child care
arrangements while adjusting their own
meetings and appointments. We appreciate
your effort to bring children on time, even
when there is a delay. Hopefully, weather
conditions will result in a regular school
schedule for the remainder of the school year.

The Maryland School Assessment (MSA) will be
administered through March 14th. Third and
fourth graders will take the reading portion of
the test next week due to the snow days. There
is no change to the fifth grade MSA schedule.
The school’s schedule and staff is impacted
when there is standardized testing. Many
rooms are used throughout the school and
many staff members are utilized to ensure we
meet Maryland State Department of Education
testing mandates. Some staff may not be as
readily available to respond to calls or emails
from parents during the testing window. They
will, however, make every effort to respond to
you in a timely manner.

Tip: Tracking Student Projects
As the year progresses, you probably notice that
more long term projects are assigned. Parts of
the project must often be completed at home.
This can be stressful because you’re juggling
homework with other children, extracurricular
activities, etc. Take a moment to revisit
homework binders with your child(ren) and
planners. You might find a rapidly approaching
deadline. If so please remember:
51,846 MCPS students receive free & reducedprice meals and many families struggle to afford
basic necessities like school supplies. With a
donation of $10.00 MCPS can provide a student in
need with a backpack filled with school supplies
Teachers break down the process for completing
projects with students, before they start. There
are always instructions. If these are missing, ask
about it!
Parts of the project that are to be completed at
home are specified in the instructions. The
upcoming lessons in class build on what is
brought back to school. If your child insists that
everything [for the project] is done in class you
can verify it by checking the instructions and
contacting the teacher.
If you feel your child is “stuck” or lagging behind
inform the teacher. A child will feel less stressed
about it if he or she is getting the help needed to
do a complete it to be best of his or her ability!
