AST Ph.D. Dissertation Checklist Dissertation Defense Announcement: Your Defense announcement to the College of Science needs to be posted at least a month before your defense date Defense announcement includes: o Astrophysical Sciences & Technology PhD Dissertation Defense at the top of the page o Your name, Title, Advisor, Date, Time, Location, Room & Abstract (in that order) o Please email announcement as a pdf to AST director for approval to post at least 6 weeks before your dissertation defense o It is your responsibility to reserve a room for your defense. o Speak to your advisor about refreshments Once you have completed any required amendments and received final approval from your committee please complete the Steps below: 1. Format Final Dissertation for submission to the library: 1. Title page o Please use the required format, examples in the AST Handbook & http://infoguides.rit.edu/thesis-services o Dissertations without a proper title page & Committee signature page will not be accepted for binding 2. Signature Page: Signatures of ALL committee members with date signed 3. Abstract page Dissertations without a properly labeled abstract will NOT be accepted for binding Make sure all pages say “Dissertation” and not thesis 2. Final Title needs to be submitted to the registrar Provide the final title to your advisor Your advisor will need to email the AST staff assistant your final title and she will submit the form to the registrar 3. Copies: You must print ALL of your dissertation copies to be bound o The Library requests copies to be printed on 100% acid-free, cotton bond paper for preservation o The Hub express is located on campus for printing If you need assistance paying for your printing, contact your advisor or the AST director 1 copy is required for RIT Library Archives 1 copy is required for the AST Program 1 copy should be provided for your advisor If you have a CD, DVD, etc. you must burn copies for each print copy All print copies must include signature page or will NOT be accepted by the binding office 4. Payment for Binding: For payment of the Library copy & AST Program copy please request a memo from the AST program director for up to 3 copies For all other copies you will need to pay Student Financial Services first o Each binding copy is $14 o Keep your receipts for your binding appointment 5. Binding: Make appointment with Binding Staff to drop off copies o Email: [email protected] o Phone: 475-2554 or 475-6013 o Binding Office located in the basement of the Wallace Library A-500 o Office Hours: M-F 9am-3:30pm Bring to you appointment, all the below: o All copies (with signature page) o Memo signed by AST director o Receipt from SFS for all additional copies paid for Submit Confirmation Receipt signed by Binding office to AST Staff Assistant 6.
