Ilford is constantly looking for ways to improve their products. The nuclear research emulsion K5 in gel form has been widely used and has become well
established; but now the formulation has been improved to give several important advantages to the user.
FORM:
Ilford K5D is supplied at working strength with no dilution needed. Simply melt and use straight from the bottle.
ADVANTAGES:
Ilford K5D has similar crystal size, sensitivity, melting time and dipping properties of K5, but was designed to be used undiluted as are other brands of
nuclear track emulsions. As with all Ilford emulsions, K5D offers the additional advantage that it can be handled in light brown safelight (Ilford 902), giving
greatly improved darkroom illumination.
SHELF LIFE:
Ilford K5D has a longer shelf life than most other emulsions in gel form. If correctly stored, it will remain in good condition for at least four months, and
may be usable for considerably longer depending on the level of background acceptable for a particular application. This material should be stored in a
refrigerator free of radioactive sources.
