WRITING AND GRAMMAR Phonics Spelling Patterns The weekly phonics pattern(s) & sample words are listed below. Find other words with your child. Week 4 (October 5-9) Short o (pop, top, hot) ABC order Week 5 (October 12-16) Blends with r & s (grip, trick, slip, slid) Possessives Week 6 (October 19-23) Short e, spelled ea, (get, fed, read) Inflectional ending –ed (landed, lasted, acted) Practice writing complete sentences with spelling words. Write a story about a weekend trip or memory. Fold pieces of paper to make your own mini books. SKILLS - Use complete sentences. - Begin each sentence with a capital letter. - Stretch words out to spell them as best you can. - Focus on turning one small moment in your narrative writing into a whole story. MATH PATTERNS Unit 2 focuses on 2D shapes and their relationships. - Identify characteristics of shapes - Compose and decompose shapes - Unit 3 focuses on using story problems to add and subtract with higher numbers. Count forwards and backwards - Compare quantities of larger numbers - Compose &decompose numbers to find combinations of each number (Ex: knowing 4 is 1+3, 2+2, 3+1. 4+0) Week 7 (October 26-30) Short u (gum, hut, mud) Compound Words VOCABULARY Practice using these words in writing & in conversations with people.
