Sustainability Across the Curriculum
Faculty Development Workshop
June 8-10, 2010
This workshop is Calvin’s first faculty development initiative to consider how to weave issues of
sustainability across the Calvin curriculum in multiple disciplines. It expands the work begun through
the Calvin Environmental Assessment Program (CEAP). Participants will be expected to either develop
or re-design course content in a specific course to include sustainability. We will also explore issues of
environmental justice in collaboration with faculty participants in the Multicultural Curriculum
Transformation workshop.
Application Process and Deadline
Faculty members who wish to expand an existing course or develop a new course with a focus on
sustainability are encouraged to apply. Applications are available on the CEAP website

Completed applications should be submitted to Gail Heffner at [email protected] by May 10, 2010.
Four faculty members from each of the Academic Divisions will be selected for participation in this first
workshop.
Activities
PowerPoint presentations, speakers, films, small group and large group discussions, individual work on
syllabus re-design

Stipends* (maximum of four faculty per division)
Attendance at the workshop, completed syllabus and assessment instrument—$300
Outcome Measures Report: response from students and 1-2 page analysis of the implemented
course—$100
Presentation of course and its outcomes to the Calvin community (i.e. Fall Faculty Conference,
Faculty Development event, etc.) —$100
Research or scholarly paper presented at a conference in your discipline or at a conference on
sustainability in higher education—$200
*Stipends will be paid as the activities are successfully completed.
