Dear Parents and Guardians:
Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a fantastic Winter Break. Let’s make sure we get the New Year off
on the right foot. Please be mindful of the ever changing Maryland weather. We will have cold and mild days
during the month of January so please make sure the children are dressed appropriately for the weather. Our
school doors open at 8:40 AM. Please do not drop children off before 8:40 AM as we have no staff to supervise
them and it is colder in the mornings. Parents of children who ride the school bus, the bus has a twenty minute
window for pickup from the stop. For example, if your stop’s pickup is 8:25, the bus can arrive for pickup
between 8:15 and 8:35. Sometimes the bus has a substitute and the consistent time you are used to could
change. Lastly, it is very important that students arrive to school on-time daily. Students are to be in their seats
in the classroom at 9:00 AM. Research has shown that chronic tardiness and absences have a detrimental effect
on student learning. Thanks for your support!

News That You Can Use:
Wheaton High School Starts the New Year in a New Building
Students and staff at Wheaton High School started the New Year in a brand new building. Wheaton HS is the
first school in Montgomery County to feature a project-based learning environment that will allow students to
work across curricular areas and use 21st century skills. The new building was designed to be “green,” through
measures that save energy, conserve water and improve indoor environmental quality. The
revitalization/expansion project replaced the former school which was built in 1954.
MCPS Budget for 2016-2017
Our Interim Superintendent, Mr. Larry Bowers has proposed a $2.4 billion Operating Budget for Fiscal Year
(FY) 2017 to the Board of Education on Dec. 8. Learn more about the recommended budget, the strategic

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday
Don’t forget, Monday, January 18, is the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. This is a perfect day to engage
your child in a discussion about equality, service and peace. There are lots of activities taking place around our
region as well.

Estimados Padres y Tutores:
¡Feliz Año Nuevo! Esperamos que todos hayan tenido unas fantásticas vacaciones de invierno. Asegurémonos
de empezar el nuevo año con el pie derecho. Por favor esté consciente del cambiante clima de Maryland.
Tenemos días fríos y suaves durante el mes de enero así que por favor asegúrese de que los niños se visten
apropiadamente para el clima. Nuestras puertas se abren a las 8:40 de la mañana. Por favor no dejen los niños
antes de las 8:40, pues no hay personal para supervisarlos y está más frío en las mañanas. Los padres de niños
que viajan en el autobús, el autobús tiene una ventana de veinte minutos para la recolección de la parada. Por
ejemplo, si la recolección de su parada es a las 8:25, el autobús puede llegar para recoger entre 8:15 y 8:35. A
veces el autobús tiene un sustituto y podría cambiar el tiempo de constante cual usted está acostumbrado. Por
último, es muy importante que los estudiantes llegan a la escuela a tiempo diariamente. Los estudiantes deben
estar en sus asientos en el aula a las 9:00. Investigación ha demostrado que las ausencias y tardanzas crónicas

La escuela secundaria de Wheaton High empieza el año nuevo en un edificio nuevo
Estudiantes y maestros en la escuela secundaria de Wheaton comenzaron el año nuevo en un edificio de nueva
construcción. Wheaton es la primera escuela en el Condado de Montgomery que cuentan con un ambiente de
aprendizaje basado en proyectos que les permitirá trabajar en todas las áreas curriculares y utilizar habilidades
del siglo XXI. El edificio nuevo fue diseñado para ser "verde", a través de medidas que ahorran energía,
conservan el agua y mejoran la calidad ambiental interior. El proyecto de revitalización/expansión sustituyó la
antigua escuela que fue construida en 1954.
Presupuesto del condado de Montgomery para 2016-2017
