Dear Parents and Guardians:
This year has been a stellar year with regards to student discipline. We continue to stress the importance of
self-discipline with academics and behavior, especially when no one is looking. As a parent you can support
our work by ensuring students have routines at home that are followed consistently. Recognize that teaching
self-discipline can be a hard process and having a system of rewards and consequences in place can ease the
process. Establishing agreements that are followed will help reduce conflicts in the home. Lastly, be a role
model. Show that you've learned self-control, that you manage yourself with discipline for your work. Make
plenty of time for play and just hanging out with family and friends, but when it's time for your responsibilities,
show that you're dependable and in charge. Kids learn from watching us. Help your kids now by teaching them
the skills and behaviors that will serve them well in the future. Self-discipline will come in handy in school,
work, and beyond. It even makes fun more fun!

News That You Can Use:
PEP Pilot Program
The application for the Preschool Education Program (PEP) Providing Inclusion Learning Opportunities
for Threes (PILOT) are available in the main office. Community peers are able to attend with students
who have mild disabilities for a fee of $150 per semester. Priority is given to children that reside in the
Brookhaven boundary and those children that were in the program during the 2015-2016 school-year.
Consideration will be given to other children outside of the Brookhaven boundary on a first come, first
serve basis. If you have any questions about the PEP PILOT program please contact Ms. Danielle
Berman, at 301-460-2433.
2016 Parent Engagement Survey
A random sample of Brookhaven families will be asked to participate in the 2016 Parent Engagement
Survey. Survey instructions will be mailed on or about March 1st. If selected, it is important to
complete the survey and return it. The information informs our school on what we can do to improve
with our engagement efforts.
Kindergarten Orientation
Brookhaven will be having Kindergarten Orientation on May 19 & 20. In order to enter Kindergarten
for the 2016-2017 school year, your child must be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2016. Please
call the school at 301-460-2140 for more information. Please note that there will be no classed held for
current Kindergarten students on these two days.

Montgomery College Youth Programs
A special one day program “Futuremakers” is being offered at Montgomery College, Rockville Campus,
on Saturday, March 12th for students in grades 2 – 5. More information can be found at

Estimados Padres y Tutores:
Este año ha sido un año estelar con respecto a la disciplina estudiantil. Seguimos subrayando la importancia de
la autodisciplina sobre lo académicos y el comportamiento, especialmente cuando nadie está mirando. Como
padres ustedes pueden apoyar nuestros esfuerzos asegurándose de que los estudiantes tengan rutina en el hogar
y que son seguidas constantemente. Reconozcan que enseñar la auto-disciplina puede ser un proceso duro y al
disponer de un sistema de recompensa y consecuencia en su hogar podría facilitar el proceso. Establecer
acuerdos para seguir ayuda a reducir los conflictos en el hogar. Por último, sea el modelo para segir. Mostrar
que usted ha aprendido el autocontrol, que se administra usted mismo con disciplina con su trabajo. Hacer
suficiente tiempo para el juego y salir en familia y amigos, pero cuando es hora de ser responsable, demuestre
que es confiable y responsable. Los niños aprenden mirándonos. El ayudar a sus hijos ahora les enseña las
habilidades y comportamientos que les servirán bien en el futuro. La autodisciplina le va a venir bien en la
escuela, el trabajo y más allá. Incluso hace lo divertido más divertido!

Noticias que puede utilizar:
Programa Piloto PEP
La solicitud para el programa de educación pre-escolar (PEP) proporcionando oportunidades de
aprendizaje para estudiantes de tres años (piloto) está disponible en la oficina principal. Compañeros de
la comunidad son capaces de asistir con los estudiantes que tienen discapacidad leve por un honorario de
$150 por semestre. Se da prioridad a los niños que residen en la frontera de Brookhaven y los niños que
estaban en el programa durante el año escolar de 2015-2016. Se dará consideración a otros niños fuera

Orientación de Kindergarten
Brookhaven tendrá la orientación el 19 y el 20 de mayo. Para entrar en Kindergarden para el año 20162017, su niño debe tener 5 años de edad en o antes del primero de septiembre de 2016. Para más
información, llame por favor la escuela al 301-460-2140. Tenga en cuenta que no habrá clases para los
alumnos corrientes en Kindergarten estos dos días.
