Reminders:
 All MBE library books
were due Friday, May
13th. Please return any
library or classroom
books to school this
week. Because all books
are due, there are no
required reading logs for
the remaining 2 weeks.
 A Note from 5th grade:
Students need to work
over the summer on
addition and multiplication facts and doubling
and halving any number
up to 100.
All 5th graders will need
a 3” binder on the first
day of school in August. The current 5th
graders seem to prefer
a 3” Zip Binder by Case
It, but you can get a
binder of your choice.
The purpose of Mountain Brook Schools is to
provide an effective, challenging, and engaging
education for every one of our students.

Reading & Writing
A librarian from Emmet O’Neal came
and spoke to 4th grade last week
about the summer reading program.
Please look for this information to
come home with your child.
We really encourage students to read
for pleasure over the summer and to
participate in the summer reading
program and activities through Emmet
O’Neal Library! The best way to grow
as a reader is to read, read, read!
Math Workshop
Current Unit: Measurement
The students are designing a park that could
be built in their neighborhood. The lot is 20
by 25 and they only have $2,000 to spend. As
the assignment may seem easy, the students
are quickly seeing how challenging it is to stay
within their allotted amount and at the same
time, design a park with measurement restrictions.
We are continuing our unit on Greek
mythology through the end of the
school year. We are reading myths
independently and with partners and
doing some class Reader’s theatre
with different myths. We are ending
the year with the read aloud The
Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
Students will write preposition poems as we continue to learn about
prepositional phrases.
