For Engineering & Pharmacy Faculty members / students of GTU
on 12th to 14th June 2014 (Thursday to Saturday) and on
on 26th to 28th June 2014 (Thursday to Saturday)
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
Under the visionary leadership of Honb. Dr. Akshai K. Aggarwal, Vice chancellor, GTU , GIC ( GTU
Innovation Council) has successfully organized 31 faculty workshops and 10 student workshops on
various themes viz. “Patenting in Engineering”, “Patenting in Pharmaceuticals”, “Patent Search
Methodology”, “Patent Search & Analysis Report (PSAR)”, “Patent Drafting Exercise (PDE)” and
“Patent Clinic” at different zone of GTU since September 2011 to till April 2014. In this process
nearly 3900 faculty members and equal number of students have been trained and aware about the
basics of IPR and Patent in particular. Due to these efforts, within 2 years’ time period 235 Patents have
been filed by GTU affiliated college students and faculty of Engineering and Pharmacy discipline. This
number is higher than any IIT of our country for the same period. The credit goes to the students, faculty
and all the stake holder of research and innovation, who have actively engaged in the promotion of IPR.
Now, this year also many BE, ME and M. Pharma students completed their research projects on various
topics, out of them some research problem and their solutions are quite unique, which might fulfill the
criteria of Patentability. To assist the students to decide whether their projects are patentable or not and if
patentable then how to draft and file the Provisional Patent, GTU has started series of Two days’
workshop on “Patent Search, Drafting and Filing”
called as “Patent Clinic” at Ahmedabad &
Gandhinagar. First such kind of program was successfully organized during 27th & 28th July 2013, 2nd
program during 16th & 17th August 2013, 3rd Patent clinic on 17th & 18th December 2013, 4th Patent clinic
on 30th & 31st October 2013, 5th Patent clinic on 26th & 27st December 2013 and 6th Patent clinic on 31st
Jan & 01st Feb 2014 at Ahmedabad & Gandhinagar wherein more than 20 patents have been filed by
different students. GIC Summer Patent Clinic (GSPC) Program is scheduled on 12th to 14th June 2014
(Thursday to Saturday) and on 26th to 28th June 2014 (Thursday to Saturday). The GSPC program
will be a month long program and we are mentioning the two slots of dates here.

 To give hands-on-training of Patent Search
 To assist to draft Provisional Patent Application
 To assist to file provisional patent application for the participants.
COURSE CONTENT IN BRIEF
 Demonstration of Patent Search methodology
 Demonstration of Patent Filing procedure in India
 Drafting exercise for Provisional Patent Application
 Filing exercise for filing of Patent application
RESOURCE PERSONS:
Techno-legal Experts from Industry and Academia from Engineering sector & Pharmacy sector
will be invited.
PARTICIPANT’S ELIGIBILITY
 Engineering & Pharmacy Faculty members including students (of UG /PG/ PhD from any
discipline) from GTU affiliated Engineering & Pharmacy colleges.
(Seats are limited for 100 participants only on first come first serve basis)
 As this program is of advance level, it is highly recommended that only those faculty OR
students, who possess really novel invention, which looks like patentable invention
should attend this workshop.
TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION
Participating faculties/students have to make necessary arrangement for their travel and
accommodation and TA/DA will not be provided.

Note: All students who are supposed to clear their final year examination and have done some
innovative IDP/UDP/Project, they can leverage this program.
GTU Innovation Council will facilitate the programs. Teams will take care of the cost required
for Govt. Fees. Experts will help in process. IP rights of the innovations will be belonging to
the innovators and university do not take any stake in the IP creation.
