ABOUT THE PROGRAMME:
Under the visionary leadership of Honb. Dr. Akshai K. Aggarwal, Vice chancellor, GTU has
successfully organized 53 faculty workshops and 12 student workshops on various themes related
to Intellectual Property Rights and patenting. The workshops, named as “Patenting in Engineering”,
“Patenting in Pharmaceuticals” and “Patent Search Methodology” etc were organized in all the
zones of GTU since 3rd September 2011.In this process more than 4650 Faculty Members and a
large number of students have been made aware about the basics of IPR and patenting process. Due
to these efforts, within 3 years’ time period more than 307 preliminary applications for patents
have been filed by Final Year students of various Engineering and Pharmacy Colleges, affiliated
with GTU.
Intellectual property (IP) is a right which refers to an exclusive ownership on a variety of intangible
assets, such as designs, symbol, write up, inventions, etc. recognized under the Intellectual Property
Rights (IPR) law. The technical inventions can be protected by means of Patents. The legal rights
of a patent is provided to the person(s)/ organization(s) whose name(s) is/ are mentioned as the
applicant(s) in the application for filing of patent. Hence it is necessary that before filing for patents,
stakeholders should understand rights and privileges available under the Patent Act. To assist in this
process GTU has stated framing IPR policy, which will take care about interest of all stakeholders
like students, Faculty Members and Colleges/ Institutes.
To discuss and work out the policy, GTU is organizing one day National conference on “Framing
of IPR Policy for Affiliating-type Universities” on the eve “World IP Day” that is on Sunday,
26th April 2015 at GTU, Chandkheda Campus, Ahmedabad.
OBJECTIVES:
 To present the work done by GTU Faculty Members and affiliated colleges in the field of
IPR
 To learn from and to understand IPR Ecosystem developed by reputed academic institutes
of the country
 To understand the role of Policy Makers at Central Government level
 To work out the policies for IPR and the process of Technology Transfer

PARTICIPANTS
Deans, Principals, Faculty Members and students (of UG /PG/ PhD from any discipline) from GTU
affiliated Engineering or Pharmacy colleges.
(Seats are limited for 100 participants only, on first come first serve basis)
 As this program is meant to discuss policy issues, it is advisable that students/ Faculty
Members, who have filed their patents and would like to contribute in development of
policy should participate.
TRAVEL AND ACCOMMODATION
Participating faculties/students have to make necessary arrangement for their travel and
accommodation and TA/DA will not be provided.
REGISTRATION FEE
Registration is Free for Faculty Members & students from Colleges/ Institutes affiliated with
GTU.
