GTU has introduced Open Source Technology Club initiative for all the GTU affiliated colleges in
Collaboration with Spoken Tutorial Project-IIT Bombay. To take the benefit of this opportunity, Noble
Group of Institution (NGI) has established an Open Source Technologies Club (OSTC).
The Inaugural function of Gujarat Technological University-Open Source Technologies Club (GTU-OSTC)
was initiated with a warm welcome to all Executive committee Members and Students. In the inaugural
function, there was a large number of faculty members and students in the seminar hall. The function
was started with the speech of Dr.A.K. Chaturvedi, Principal, NGI addressed all the students through the
motivational speech and also boost up them to have more participation in the workshops and make it
huge success. Then after, Dr.Vipul Vekriya, Head of Department mentioned the importance of learning a
new technology for getting healthy placement. Shri Manish Trivedi and Shri Parth Kotecha, Managing
Trustee inspires students and faculty members to join innovative workshop of Spoken Tutorial. Then
after Ms.Vinita from IIT-Bombay gave the information about available Free and open source software
and also the importance about their functionality and market segment or popularity. The Session ended
with many questions and the answers were satisfactory responded by Ms. Vinita. The Function ended
with a vote of thanks by Prof. Chetan Ajudiya.
As a part of OSTC club, Institute organized spoken tutorial workshop of LINUX on 14/03/2014,
immediately after the inaugural function. Department of Computer Science &Engineering organized a
workshop on LINUX with the help of IIT-Bombay Spoken Tutorial Team for Computer Science &
Engineering students of Semester–IV to boost the knowledge of LINUX among students. Total 24
students participated in this workshop.
Ms.Vinita, the expert from IIT, Bombay conducted the workshop online through Skype. In the beginning
she explained the aim and importance of Open Source Software and Technologies. She explained in brief
the overview of LINUX and its importance in professional field. All the participants had carefully watched
videos on LINUX which were received from Spoken Tutorial Project-IIT Bombay and preinstalled in the
Computer Systems.
At the end of workshop the Expert from IITB had taken the feedback from participants.
We are thankful to GTU And IITB Spoken tutorial team for such a nice initiative.
