Newsletter of the Laytonsville Elementary School PTA BULLDOG BULLETIN President’s Message Thankfulness is the beginning of gratitude. Gratitude is the completion of thankfulness. All invited. 12/10-12/12 LES Holiday Shop Mon, 12/16, 11:45 am-1:45 pm Staff Appreciation Dessert Day Fri, 12/20, 2:30 pm LES Holiday Sing-a-long ~Henri Frederic Amiel As the holiday season approaches the LES community has many things for which to be thankful. Over the past month we accomplished so many things that have and will continue to benefit our school. We could not have done this without the tremendous support of the teachers, administration and most of all the parents. Once again our “Feed the Bulldogs” campaign was a huge success. Thanks to the hard work of Kim Braun and Jessica Snyder and the generosity of our community, we were able to raise $18,266.00 and had 70% participation, which is amazing. As promised, our goal is to spend the money on improvements during the 2013-14 school year. The first purchase we will make is another laptop cart, which we hope will be in the school by January. Mrs. Sagona is diligently working on the purchase order and approval from MCPS. This new laptop cart will give our children additional access to computers in the classrooms and media center. Additionally, two of the three Cultural Arts assemblies have been scheduled. The first assembly is this month and features the Luis Garay Percussion World, which is sure to be a hit. We will keep you apprised of additional purchases as they happen. November is a special time to give thanks. We have so much to be thankful for … this past Monday we thanked our veterans and active service members in an emotional and impactful ceremony. Our children displayed the utmost respect for the veterans and performed beautifully at the podium and on the stage singing. The student body proved once again that they are respectful and responsible. Since our last communication there have been some exciting and successful events: Halloween parties, Book Fair and Family Fun Night, none of which could have happened without your help and willingness to volunteer. All of our children benefit from and enjoy these activities. “No duty is more urgent than that of returning thanks.” ~James Allen Our most sincere appreciation for your generosity, time, energy and constant support, we wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving.
