Minutes of Meeting: Zone-1 and 2 (Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar) on Sunday, 8th December, 2013 The Zonal meeting for Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar was organized by Gujarat Technological University at GTU, Chnadkheda Campus. More than 150 Principals and Trustees of Management and Engineering colleges, senior faculty members and GTU officials participated in the Zonal Meeting. Inaugural Session: On behalf of GTU Ms. Almas Juneja, OSD compares the Zonal Meeting and welcome all the participants present in the meeting. After the “Deep pragatyam” and felicitation of the Dignitaries Dr. S.O.Junare, Principle of NICM and Dean of GTU, Welcome all the dignitaries, all Directors and Principals present in the Zonal meeting. He also stated the objective of the Meeting. Dr. M.N.Patel, Hon’ble Director of GTU could not present in the meeting. Dr. N.M.Bhatt, Director, GIT Gandhinagar Institute of Technology and Dean of Engineering, GTU briefed about the Role of the university in the Admission, Enrollment, Examination Process, including evaluation process for the timely deceleration of University results. He also guides principles to instruct faculty members to read the assessment order and finish the assessment of answer book with in specified time durations. He gives some important Guidelines to the Examiner/Evaluator such as carry forward total of sub questions marks on the front page of the answer book, Always give marks in integers only, Always fill all details available on the answer book lot/bag before submitting it to Zonal Office ect. and he also advice to read details on the penalty clause recommended by UFM committee for mistakes in assessing answer books by examiners on http://www.gtu.ac.in/ImpCircular/penalty_teacher.pdf He shared the E-assessment Growth and Process of the University (i.e Winter 2012 - 15,000, Summer -2012 -2,65,000 ,Winter 2013-7,00,000) and Winter 2013 E-assessment will be done for the following courses B.E. Sem. 1 , 2 , 7 & All PG Courses. He said Being and ICT enabled university we shall take the maximum advantage of technology in eassessment and e- enrolment. • It is faster and cost effective method of assessment. • Students are inquiring to view the answer books on request, which will be easy through eassessment • In case of doubt in assessment, two to three evaluators can see it again at a time. • Can Reduce the RTIs in Answer Books Minutes of Meeting: Zone-1 and 2(Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar) on Sunday, 8th December, 2013 Page 1 • • viewing. Helps in Early declaration of Results Saves time and money spent on transportation and physical movements of answer books. He also discuss about the revised norms of the Increased Remunerations and TA DA available on http://www.gtu.ac.in/Honorarium.asp. He through lights on the new academic calendar and Centre for Global Business Studies (CGBS) is one of the PG research centres of GTU. CGBS promotes the research work in field of business management and facilitates the foreign study programs across the branches of Engineering, Pharmacy, Computer Science and Management. He through light on Indo- Canadian and Indo-German Study Centres, International Students at GTU, International Co-Supervisors in GTU’s Doctoral Program and IEP program. After this Lecture, Dean of the Pharmacy and Director of Shree Sharvajanik Pharmacy College of Mehsana, Dr. C.N.Patel discussed about the education system of the Gujarat. He also gives some inputs to the trustees to increase the enrolment in the institute. He said that it is very difficult to manage the semester system as at Student and Institute level because there is no time for the first semester student to get adequate with the English, especially for those students who come from the Gujarati medium. Dr. S. O. Junare, Principle of NICM and Dean of GTU discuss about the Role of trustees in Admission of in the University. He gives some suggestions to the trustees for the Publicity and Marketing of their Institute. He said trustees should involve in the academics activities and make some schedule to meet Faculty and staff twice in a year. He proposed to make Advisory committee for the academics and Quality enhancement of the Institute and University. He also advice trustees to take some feedbacks from the Students for academic situation and He also advice to do a regular update on the website and do compulsory two events in a year. He said it is important to attract maximum number of students and good faculty members in the Institute. After this session Hon. Akshai Aggarwal Address on the Quality of education in the education system. He instructed trustees and principals to motive their faculty members and professor to organize and attend Faculty Development Programs and Workshop for the benefit of the students and faculties. He said that maximum number of foreign students complaining about the faculties that they do not know proper English and because of this reason we may lose our impression in the India as well as outside country. This can give benefit to the Institute and University. Prof. Mitesh Dadhania, Deputy Director of GTU discuss about the Run for Unity Program and unique initiative of the Gujarat Government aims at building the World’s Largest Statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a structure that will be 182m tall. He said that we should encourage all GTU family members, including Faculties, Students, Directors, Principals, HODs and Staff Members to join the Run for Unity on 15/12/2013 (8.00 am to 11.00 am). He said we must contribute in this event hence all the GTU family members are requested to make their registration on the link given in below circular. http://www.gtu.ac.in/circulars/13Dec/04122013_02.pdf To give tribute to the to the great men Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel GTU is publishing a special Issue of Anantyam in the context of the Statue of Unity being put up on an island called Sadhu Bet in Narmada directly facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam. The special issue will have papers/articles on the following themes: (Papers on other aspects of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s life will also be considered) kindly refer the circular dated 04/12/2013 on GTU site for Anantyam http://www.gtu.ac.in/circulars/13Dec/04122013_01.pdf. In the Open Forum some of the principals and trustees focus on the some of the points such as: o To give a soft copy and hard copy of the Results to the Institute. o To give some more to fill Exam form and hall ticket and declare the dated of if before academics starts. o To upload some format on the University website for the support given by the University in arranging the FDP, Workshop and Conference. At the end Dr. Akshai Aggarwal, Vice Chancellor, GTU thank all the trustees and Principles. The meeting started at 10: 30am and ended at 2.30pm. Over all meeting remained very interactive. The following points were discussed and raised by the respective member of the meeting. 1. Dr. Junare proposed to design the format of the Affiliation, Extension and Approval of the Institutes. 2. Prof. Hiren Shah has suggested that the Affiliation & Approval should be given for 2 to 5 years based on the previous 3 years LIC reports. 3. Dr. Arti Trivedi has proposed to schedule the special meetings of 5 trustees in each zone to discuss serious issues of Admission Process through CMAT / GCET for the Academic Year 2014 – 15. 4. Dr. Siddhant Singh discussed about the issues related to strategies for confirming full strength of admission. 5. Prof. Hiren Shah also raised the issues of examination, assessments and late results declaration as well as the examination remuneration and account settlements.
