Under the initiative taken by GTU, in collaboration with Spoken Tutorial Project-IIT Bombay,Open Source
Technologies Club (OSTC) has been established at Parul Institute of Engineering &Technology - MCA.
The Inaugural function of Gujarat Technological University-Open Source Technologies Club(GTU-OSTC) initiated
with warm welcome to all Executive committee Members and Students. The function was started with the
Motivational and Informative Audio-video Clip prepared by the Spoken Tutorial Project Team at IIT Bombay. The
audio-video clip provides the information about available Free and open source software and also the importance
about their functionality and market segment or popularity.
Dr. Vilin Parekh, Principal, PIET addressed all the students through the motivational speech and also boost up them
to have more participation in the workshops and make it huge success. He also mentioned the importance of
learning a new technology for getting healthy placement. Then after, Dr. V. N Acharya, Head-MCA has introduced
all the Executive Team Members of GTU-OSTC and the planning of the upcoming workshops. Prof. Bindi Parikh
provided the information about the procedure to participate in a workshop. The Session ended with many
questions and the answers were satisfactory responded by Prof. Prashant Shah and Prof.Akshar Muley. The
Function was ended with vote of thanks by Prof. Shimi Biju.

After Inauguration, all the participants installed and carefully watched videos on Linux- Ubuntu which were
received from Spoken Tutorial Project-IIT Bombay. At the end of workshop, verbal feedback was also obtained
from the participants. All the participants had carefully watched videos and also had hands on practice with the
online material provided which were received from Spoken Tutorial Project-IIT Bombay and preinstalled in the
computer systems. The workshop has proved itself a very motivational event to acquire new knowledge. Students
are truly inspired by the workshop and seem to be pursuing many other means of finding further information
about the concepts of Linux and Ubuntu. They are eagerly waiting towards participating in more workshops like
this.
