D Acharya and Shri. Gargi Das. The objective of the workshop was to give awareness about the recent substantial increase of research & development, adoption in wireless and mobile technologies and considerable amount of contributions to this domain from India to various avenues like research, coding, localization, marketing, app store submissions, infrastructure, maintenance, job opportunities etc. The primary focus of this workshop was to share knowledge about Emerging Research Trends and Challenges in Wireless Technologies, Challenges in Satellite Communications and ignite faculties to take up Mobile application development using Android environment. 111 (19 students & 92 faculty) members (EC, CE & IT, Engineering department) from various Engineering colleges affiliated to GTU across the state participated in the workshop. Gujarat Technological University The workshop started with the inaugural function at 9:30 AM. Assistant Professor Mrs. Krishnaba Parmar, gave an introductory speech and shared few words about Gujarat Technological University (GTU), “POST GRADUATE RESEARCH CENTER FOR MOBILE COMPUTING AND WIRELESS TECHNOLOGIES” and the objectives of the workshop with participants. She thanked Dr. Akshai Aggarwal, Vice Chancellor, Gujarat Technological University, for providing necessary support to host the workshop. Assistant Professor Mr. Margam Suthar, Post Graduate Research Center for Mobile Computing and Wireless Technologies at Gujarat Technological University gave the Introduction of the invited experts and welcomed the guest speaker Dr. Sanjeev Gupta, Shri N. D Acharya and Shri. Gargi Das with a Bouquet. 18th October, 2014 Session-1 (11.00 am - 01.00 pm) The morning session started at 10.00 AM by Dr. Sanjeev Gupta. He began with introductions and then discuss Emerging Research Trends and Challenges in Wireless System Design. He talked about the progress in IC technology and said that making chips that incorporate all the elements of a complete wireless radio system on a chip can be a real possibility. Such an “antenna-to-network” chip would incorporate an RF front-end besides baseband digital signal processing and network protocols. RF components and circuits form the backbone of today’s wireless, mobile and satellite communication networks. PG Research Centre for Mobile Computing and Wireless Technologies 3|Page Gujarat Technological University Consequently, both practicing and aspiring professionals need to be able to solve even more complex RF front-end design issues. This talk will focus on understanding every aspect of modern wireless system design. He mentioned that from the antenna through the receiver frontend to the baseband level, there are lots of issues and design challenges faced by the engineers. There is a need to evaluate various design parameters such as carrier-to-noise ratio, receiver noise figure, inter-modulation products, spurious mixer products, image frequencies, dynamic range, etc. Blending theoretical rigor with practical examples, this presentation addresses a variety of complex, real-world problems that the system engineers are likely to encounter in today’s communications industry. It deals with various issues for the optimum system design by conceptualizing a set of functional blocks, and their specifications, that will interact in a manner that produces the required system performance. Session-2 (2.00 pm - 3.30 pm) The afternoon session commenced at 2.00 PM by Shri N. D Acharya. The presentation of Shri N D Acharya was based on Mobile Communication in Satcom Domain which included PPT and videos. The Power Point presentation on basic Satcom covered Satellite As Communication Media , Satellite Orbits (LEO, MEO, GEO, Polar, Elliptical, GeoSynchronous orbits and its relevance), Satellite Frequency Bands (L, S, X, C, KU & KA) and its used for communication Different Terms used in Satellite Domain & its relevance. Challenges in Satellite Communications, which continually evolves the satellite domain with emerging trends. Viz. Legality & License, Connectivity, Access, Routing, Localization of mobile stations, Handover in satellite systems, BW & Application, Investments and ROI Almost one hour of Video Presentations was given which covered various part of satellite communications challenges and emerging trends for various Mobile & transportable applications.
