A Short Term Training Program on
Mobile Application Development

Gujarat Technological University has always supported the latest trends in industry and tried
to implement those in benefit of the students. To take this a step forward Honourable Vice
Chancellor Dr.Akshai Aggarwal the visionary man, has set up a state level board for mobile and
wireless technology and under the activity of this board a state level program on mobile application
development was organized at Vishwakarma Government Engineering College, Chandkheda. Forum
Nokia Finland, Singapore and Bangalore took keen interest to support this activity and provided
Nokia technology experts to deliver the session on how to develop mobile application in various
platforms. The program was planned to expose participants with every technology platforms and
there were session on Symbian OS, Google’s Android and Apple’s iPhone platform. Target group for
the STTP were engineers from IT, Computer, EC and IC branches. Around 100 students and 50 faculty
members across Gujarat participated in the five day programme.
The STTP was inaugurated by Honourable Vice Chancellor Dr. Akshai Aggarwal. First day
session was delivered by Forum Nokia Technology Expert Mr. Balagopal KS on “Mobile Application
Development Using Java”. The session was followed by hands-on practice in laboratory. Second day
included presentations by Mr. Nitin Srivastava, Forum Nokia Technology Expert. Mr. Nitin Srivastava
demonstrated role of Qt platform in current mobile eco-system. On third day, Mr. Bharat D Sharma,
Director, Fortune Infocom Ltd discussed Google’s android OS for mobile devices. Fourth Day of STTP
was full of activities. Prof. Kiran Trivedi, Associate Professor, S. S. Engineering College, Bhavnagar
guided the participants on filing patent of their ideas/innovations and “Integration of Electronics
with Mobile Applications”. Prof. Mehul Jajal Assistant Professor, S. S. Engineering College, Bhavnagar
took a session “on rapid application development with Python for Symbian”. Mr. Chintan Umraliya,
Lecturer, Dr. J. N. Mehta Government Polytechnic, Amreli introduces “Web Runtime Widgets”
platform for developing web applications with nice UI. On the final day of STTP Mr.Gargi Das,
Software Engineer, Infostretch Solutions, explained mobile application development for Apple
iPhone OS.
Students as well as faculty members gained knowledge on the vast field of mobile
application development on different platforms. Nokia offered to set up Device Lab at Gujarat
Technological University for students to test their projects. Nokia also offered projects for final year
students as a submission of application in Ovi Store. Nokia invited the participants to enter the
global competition for developers, and set up a special category for participants in the contest.
GTU Registrar Dr. G.P. Vadodaria and Prof. M. R. Patel, Principal, VGEC Chandkheda
distributed certificates to the participants. Prof. Uday Trivedi and Prof. S. D. Panchal, VGEC
Chandkheda and his team took keen interest in organizing the STTP arranging facilities for
participants.
