Gujarat Technological University organized short term training program on
“Working with Android” in Information Technology department of L. D. College
of Engg during 8th June to 2015 to 12th June 2015.
This five days’ workshop had nearly 50 participants including Professors, PG and
PhD students from Degree/Diploma/MCA colleges all across Gujarat. The
inauguration of the event was acknowledged by presence of chief Guest Mr. Anant
Gijare CIO, Adani Group of Industries, Dr. G.P. Vadodaria, Principal L.D college
of Engineering, Prof. Hiteishi Diwanji, H.O.D, I.T Department, L. D. College of
Engineering. They lighted the lamp and inaugurated the event. Mr. Gijre
emphasized on use of mobile technology in power sector including the fact that
right information should reach to right person and information should be
authenticated.
On day 1, Prof. Hiteishi Diwanji, Head of the Information Technology
Department, L.D.College of Engg conducted workshop and explained Android’s
underlying Architecture, building first application, use of logging, working with
layouts and defining the resources. The lecture session was followed by hands on
session in the laboratory.
On day 2, Prof B.V.Buddhadev, HOD, IT Department, SSEC Bhavnagar, delivered
lecture on working with canvases, shapes and paints, working with tweened
animation and working with frame-by-frame animation which was followed by
hands on session of the same in the laboratory.
On day 3, Mr. Rushil Shah from Meditab software gave an expert talk on working
with SQLite Databases, need of database in mobile and why lightweight database
should be used, JSON parsing, sharing data between applications and content
providers which was followed by lab seesions of the same.
On day 4, Mr. Dhaval Bariaya and Mr. Anirrudh Bhilvare delivered expert talk on
permission in Menifest file, permission based attacks in Generating apk file,
decompiling Android application with apktool and dex2jar tool, how to develop a
content provider application and Publishing Android App on App store which was
followed by lab session.
On day 5, Mr. Harshesh Valera, working with Intrinsyc Technologies Corporation,
Canada as Sr. Embedded Engineer delivered expert lecture through google
hangout. He covered the architecture of Android Kernel, the difference between
vanilla kernel and Android kernel, use of Git and Repo. He also presented case
study of Wi-Fi covering how API call is sent to kernel.
The test was conducted to scrutinize the level of knowledge and understanding
participants gained through this training.
Valedictory function was conducted in presence of Dr. G.P Vadodaria, Principal of
L.D College of Engineering and certificates were distributed to all the participants.
The participants gave feedback saying that they not only gained the knowledge of
the subject but they learnt how to teach subject. They wished that there should be
two weeks of extended training on Android with practical sessions.
