Principal’s Message
As I have done in the past, I want to use my message in the weekly newsletter as a way to share
staffing updates with you. This week, I do not have any new or additional staffing updates to
share, but I do want to take the opportunity to update you on the process of identifying a new
principal for Rock Creek Valley ES. As you know, I will be retiring from MCPS effective July 1st
and I want to first pass on my heart felt thank you for all the kind words and messages that
have been shared with me since I announced my retirement. Last week, many staff and
parents attended community meetings that were held by Dr. Donna Hollingshead, our associate
superintendent, to provide input and feedback on qualities that are desired in your future
principal. At those community meetings, individuals had the opportunity to volunteer to
participate in the formal interview process and on Monday afternoon, April 20th, several staff
and parents will interview potential principal candidates. While it is difficult for me to think of
anyone other than myself in the role of principal at Rock Creek Valley ES, I am glad to know that
parents and staff will have a voice in identifying your next principal. The final decision will not
be made public until it is confirmed by the board of education in May, but I we will share that
information with you as soon as possible. As always, I am thankful for your continued
partnership and devotion to ensuring that Rock Creek Valley ES remains the warm, positive, and
welcoming learning environment it is for all our students, staff, and parents.
RCV Yard Sale

The weather is warming up and it is time to think about getting out of the house. What could be more
fun than Hershey Park?!
You can save up to 40% off on Summer 2015 Hershey Park tickets by buying them in advance from the
Rock Creek Valley ES 5th grade class to help support their end-of-the-year activities.
Regular tickets (ages 9-54) are only $38.00 each and Jr/Sr tickets (ages 3-8 or 55-59) are $31.00
each. This is a substantial savings--the gate prices are usually $62.80 and $40.80, respectively. Senior
Plus and meal tickets are also available. Tickets are valid on any regular operating day during the 2015
Summer Season. The order form and informational flyer were sent home a few weeks ago. If you lost
yours, they can also be found in the front office or can be obtained from Janet Cyr
([email protected]) or Mrs. Keeter ([email protected]).
Orders with full payment must be received in the RCV front office no later than April 24th, but early
orders are appreciated. Tickets will be available for distribution by May 18th. Please contact Janet Cyr

PTA Fundraiser!
Come out and support the RCV PTA at Urban BBQ and Menchie's on Tuesday, April 21st from 4pm-9pm.
Don't forget to mention RCV so the PTA can get credit.
Family Fun Night/Bingo
SAVE THE DATE!!!! The final Family Fun Night/Bingo of the year is here, Friday, April 24th from 7-8:30
PM.
Look for the flyer in your child’s folder. Buy your tickets early or buy them at the door. This is a GREAT
event for the whole family. See you there!!!
Babysitting Fundraiser for Troop 1238

 $15 for one kid, $25 for two, $30 for three (Cash, Check, or Charge!)
 Dinner served for $7 – pizza, juicebox, carrots, cookies
 For children potty trained through 5th grade
Our teen Girl Scouts are experienced camp counselors, some have babysitting certification, and are
supervised by adult Girl Scout leaders. There will be games, crafts, toys, face painting, entertainment.

Spring Yard Sale
at
Rock Creek Valley
Spring Yard Sale will be held on Saturday, May 9th, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. –
12:00 noon
We are renting out tables to individuals in the community.
There will also be an RCV table for donated items.
Proceeds from this table will go directly to the school.
Tables will rent for $20.00. Tables will be set up in the front parking lot. If
it rains, we will bring the yard sale indoors. If you would like to participate
please fill out the attached information and make a check payable to RCV for
$20.00 per table. Your table will be reserved for you on Saturday,
May 9th. You may begin setting up as early as 7:00 a.m.
Proceeds from the Table Rentals and the RCV Table will help support and
defray costs of student programs and activities.
Reservations will be accepted until Friday, May 8th, 2014 or until all tables
are reserved. We have 40 tables available, so it will be on a first come, first
served basis.
