Principal’s message
Our professional work this year at NHE is focused on improving student
reading. Specifically, we are working to do a better job teaching students to selfNew

monitor when reading. This means teaching students to check to see if the words they
are reading make sense and to check to see if the letters on the page look like they
match the words that the students are reading. This will help students to become
independent readers. It will help them to be stronger readers who will learn more
from what they read.

At upcoming Principal’s Parent Coffees, we will be working with parents to
help them learn strategies they can use at home with their children to help them to

become better readers. We will be using books in Spanish and copies of the same

all. Yes, there are important reading strategies that we can learn from these books as
books in English. We will even be using some books that don’t have words in them at
well. After the coffees, parents will be able to take these books home to use with
their children. I hope you are able to join us for these coffees.

followed by an Art Show. The concert will be held on
December 14, 2015 starting at 6:30 pm and the Art Show
will be open from 7:00—7:30 pm. There will also be a
PTA bake sale from 7:00—7:30 pm.
