a new era of student
success at Kemp Mill Elementary School. During the
2015–2016 school year, we will be engaged in rich
professional activities, coaching, and modeling that
will provide all instructional staff and paraprofessionals
with best practices in executing and assessing rigorous,
responsive differentiation of instruction, independent
application of skills and strategies, and effective feedback
that will result in the increase of student proficiency at each grade level by at least
10 percent in math and reading on the MAP-R, MAP-M, and mClass.
WE ARE EXCITED TO BEGIN
We look forward to working with parents and the community to make Kemp Mill
a model program in Maryland.

success of every student in the Kemp Mill community. Meetings are held on the first

URGIMOS A LOS PADRES
¾¾ FOCUS ON HEALTHY, ACTIVE STUDENTS
Kemp Mill ES is the recipient of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s HealthierUS
School Challenge Silver Award for 2012–2016, which we earned for our excellence
in creating a healthy school environment through good nutrition and activity
programs. HealthierUS School Challenge is a voluntary program that provides
financial awards to schools that choose to take steps to encourage students to make
healthy choices and be more physically active.
¾¾ SPECIAL PROGRAMS
¡¡ The Dual Language Program
Kemp Mill’s unique Dual Language Program was designed to—
¡¡ Foster biliteracy and bilingualism in English and Spanish,
¡¡ Provide a rigorous academic program, and
¡¡ Promote an appreciation for multiculturalism.
Students are taught by a team of two teachers—one who teaches primarily in
Spanish and one who teaches primarily in English. Students move between the two
teachers in order to receive instruction in Spanish and English throughout the day.
¡¡ Linkages to Learning
A school-based collaboration among Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS),
the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), and private sector health
and human service agencies in Montgomery County. The program is designed to
enable at-risk children and their families to improve adjustment to and performance
in school, at home, and in the community. Parents work as partners with program
staff to develop solutions to mental health, educational, and social services
challenges confronting their children.
