James, Sr., Principal Ms. Dynesha Brooks, School Counselor “…to provide a comprehensive counseling curriculum to all students (K-5) through classroom lessons, small groups, and individual meetings in which students will receive academic, personal, social/emotional, and career support in order to prepare them to be productive lifelong learners.” Counseling Services Individual Counseling- to help students explore concerns (academic, personal, social/emotional, etc.) Group Counseling- to facilitate conversations amongst students who share some type of commonality (e.g, social skills group) Classroom Guidance- to introduce the skills, knowledge, and behaviors that will allow students to be safe, respectful, and successful Student Appraisal/Referrals/Consultation- to make sure our students are receiving what they need in order to be successful (e.g., 504 accommodations, outside therapy, food/clothing assistance etc.) MONTH: THEME LESSON PLANS September: Excellence School Success (listening, paying attention, following the rules, etc) October: Respect Self-Esteem, Bullying Prevention, Diversity Awareness November: Gratitude Defining “Thankful”, Giving Back December: Caring/Fairness Feelings/Emotions, Friendships January: Self-Awareness Healthy Development; Personal Safety February: Dedication Goal-Setting, Career Exploration March: Responsibility Decision-Making, Problem Solving April: Teamwork Collaboration, Cooperation May: Courage/Transitions Dealing with Stress & Anxiety, Resiliency Skills Counselor Coffee (with Parents) Mentor Program Students referred by teachers College/Career Café Presentation/Open Forum For 4th and 5th grade students Middle School Preparation 5th grade classes Honor Roll Breakfasts/Lunches Small Groups Students referred by teachers 1) Scheduling Classroom Guidance Lessons 2) Making Student Referrals 3) Keeping eyes/ears open for any “issues”, especially class-wide or school-wide problems 4) Communicating any concerns
