Your Health and Vapor Intrusion

SITE ASSESSMENT AND CONSULTATION UNIT
Your Health and Vapor Intrusion
Your home is in an area where the Minnesota Pollution Control
Agency (MPCA) is investigating contaminated soil vapor. If your home
is impacted, preventing soil vapor from entering your home can
improve the quality of the air in your home, especially in the
basement and in lower levels.
The amounts of chemicals in contaminated vapor that enter into
buildings are typically not high enough to cause health impacts in
most people. However, there may be health concerns if people are
exposed to high amounts of some chemicals for a long time, and/or if
an exposed individual is sensitive or their health is compromised.
If you have concerns about anyone living in your home or building
who may be a sensitive individual, please call or email the Minnesota Department of Health at
651-201-4897 or [email protected].
Examples of individuals who may be sensitive include:
• women who are pregnant or may become pregnant
• infants and young children
• elderly persons
• people who are living with chronic disease or a compromised immune system
