The Metamorphosis Project 2014 Learning Conference July 21‐23 Mountain Brook High School MB‐S14251 What the Gossip Girls, the Death Star, Hogwarts, and Cinderella All Have in Common Wednesday, July 23 9:00‐11:00 a.m. MBHS Target Audience: Teachers 7‐12 A two‐year collaborative effort to improve pedagogical strategies for the writing classroom has led to some surprising findings in the fields of transmedia, fan fiction, technology, and even social justice. What began as a project to reach out to disengaged students who disliked writing became a springboard for an innovative approach to the narrative. Students may still arrive as reluctant writers, but we are repeatedly told by our pupils that this is their favorite lesson of the year. This session will extend beyond just the writing/ELA classroom and attempt to reach across the curriculum, though the limits of the presenters remains senior level English.
