Happy Halloween!
On Friday, October 30th, we will
celebrate Halloween at school. Students
should bring their costumes in labeled bags
to school. They will have an opportunity to
change into their costumes before the fun
begins in the afternoon! A flyer will soon
come home asking for a party donation.

In the Classroom
In math, we will focus on solving addition
and subtraction story problems. Students
will show their work using pictures, words,
and numbers. Next, students will organize,
display, and interpret data on bar graphs
as well as pictographs.
In reading, we will focus on using nonfiction text features like table of contents,
index, captions, and glossaries to locate
information. In fiction text, students will
analyze story details.
In writing, students will express an
opinion, provide detailed support, and
supply a conclusion. Next, students will be
writing to inform about an animal.
Nonfiction text books and the website
PebbleGo.com will be used.
In science, students will learn about
animal food chains. First graders will also
learn about human nutrition by visiting
MyFoodPlate.com. In social studies, we will
discuss contributions by people and national
symbols.
