Dear Clarksburg Elementary School Parents/Guardians,
I hope that everybody had a safe and relaxing weekend. I want to remind all students and parents that
we will have our first early release day on Friday, October 2. This means that students will be
dismissed at 1:20 p.m. We also have our Volunteer Orientation/Training on Wednesday, September
30 at 10:30 a.m. I hope to see as many of our volunteers and potential volunteers at school as possible.
We will cover a wide range of topics – from child neglect and abuse to how to correctly use the copy
machine. The training will not last more than 60 minutes.
Please see the additional information below to learn about more of the exciting things that we are
doing and the Montgomery County Public School system is offering. Contact the office if you have
any questions or concerns. Thank you.
Sincerely,

Golden PEM (Persistence, Effort and Motivation) Awards
This year, part of our School Improvement Plan focus is on helping students to increase their levels
of persistence, effort, and motivation in relation to their learning. To highlight students’ achievement
in this area, each week, two students from every class will be awarded The Golden PEM Award.
Teachers will choose the Golden PEM Award winners based on the students’ consistent performance
throughout the week related to their persistence, effort, and motivation in the classroom setting.
Recipients of the award will take home a Golden PEM Certificate as well as have their names listed
in the Principal’s Weekly Parent Bulletin.

LifeTouch Pictures
Our school has contracted Lifetouch Photography as our official yearbook photographer for the
2015/2016 school year. Lifetouch offers a variety of portrait packages and background styles for your
selection. Each student will receive a picture day flyer with payment envelope approximately one
week prior to picture day. If your child does not receive this flyer, additional copies will be made
available for you in the school office. In the interest of security, check or money order is the payment
type recommended. Parents preferring to pay with credit card may prepay on line by visiting
MyLifetouch.com. Simply follow the on line instructions for making credit card payments. If cash is
your preferred method of payment, please include the exact amount in your payment envelope.
Photographers will not be able to open payment envelopes to make change for cash customers. ALL
students will need to be photographed for yearbook and administrative purposes, but only those
submitting a completed order form to the photographer on picture day will receive a portrait package.
Lifetouch Photography can provide additional information regarding picture day directly to parents
and guardians by calling toll free 800-445-1189 Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. or via
e-mail at [email protected]
A Message From Your PTA
Welcome families and staff who have joined Clarksburg Elementary School’s PTA!!! You are all
now members of an amazing web of resources and have earned a powerful voice for your child’s
school. Help your school become an even stronger web of influence by making sure anyone you
know has joined CES PTA.
ANYONE CAN JOIN US!! So call Grandma and other family members and ask for their
support. They do not have to attend meetings, but their membership will give the organization another
vote/voice toward advocating for our school’s needs.
Did you know our PTA has a website?!! We can thank our Website Parent Volunteer, Carla Bitsko
(Owen’s mom), for her efforts on the site. So take a peek at her hard work and visit the website
https://sites.google.com/site/cesmdpta/ to view information on upcoming events such as:
 Our first PTA meeting – October 6, 2015
 Family Movie Night
 Kidstuff Books
 Spirit Wear
LAST CALL FOR KIDSTUFF BOOKS!!!! Have you purchased yours? Remember, if you sell 5
books, you will receive one free!!
Books available in State of your choice.
Dismissal Request
Please make sure you contact the main office prior to 3:30 p.m. if you have any changes to how your
student is going home. It gets very confusing when there are any last minute changes to student
