THE CLARKSBURG CHEETAH Week of April 11, 2016 THIS WEEK: April 11-15 Book Fair Week in the Media Center Tues., April 12 Donuts for Dads and Granddads (In conjunction with the Book Fair) A LOOK AHEAD: Tues., April 19 STEM Fair Fri., April 22 Spring Dance Dear Clarksburg Elementary School Parents/Guardians, I hope that everybody had a wonderful weekend. I want to remind you that the Book Fair is taking place this week. It is a great time for you to remind your children how important it is to read. It is also a terrific time to demonstrate how much you value reading. If children see their parents reading, they are more likely to do it as well. Included in the newsletter are our preliminary dates for the PARCC assessments. If you have a third, fourth, or fifth grade student, please look closely at the PARCC testing schedule. Please note that “AM” designates the time of day before lunch/recess and “PM” designates the time of day after lunch/recess. We ask that you do your best to schedule your child’s appointments and any family trips/vacations around these testing dates. Please see the additional information below to learn about more of the exciting things that we are doing and the Montgomery County Public School system is offering. Contact the office if you have any questions or concerns. Sincerely, Carl Bencal Principal 1 Golden PEM (Persistence, Effort and Motivation) Awards This year, part of our School Improvement Plan focus is on helping students to increase their levels of persistence, effort, and motivation in relation to their learning. Way2Go Maryland College Fair Set for May 7 The University System of Maryland (USM) will host a College Preparation Event for students in Grades 6–10 and their parents on Saturday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Universities at Shady Grove. The event will bring together current college students and admissions and financial aid representatives from USM institutions to chat with students and their parents/guardians about preparing and paying for college.
