It was almost perfect. We are looking forward to an exciting and busy week. We will have our STEM Fair on Tuesday morning and our Spring Dance on Friday night. Although there is no cost to attend the dance, our fifth grade students are conducting a fundraiser to defray some of the costs of the special end of the year activities that we have planned for them. Included in the newsletter are our preliminary dates for the PARCC assessments. If you have a third, fourth, or fifth grade student, please look closely at the PARCC testing schedule. We ask that you do your best to schedule your child’s appointments and any family trips/vacations around these testing dates. Please see the additional information below to learn about more of the exciting things that we are doing and the Montgomery County Public School system is offering. Contact the office if you have any questions or concerns. Sincerely, Carl Bencal Principal 1 Golden PEM (Persistence, Effort and Motivation) Awards This year, part of our School Improvement Plan focus is on helping students to increase their levels of persistence, effort, and motivation in relation to their learning. To highlight students’ achievement in this area, each week, two students from every class will be awarded The Golden PEM Award. Teachers will choose the Golden PEM Award winners based on the students’ consistent performance throughout the week related to their persistence, effort, and motivation in the classroom setting. Recipients of the award will take home a Golden PEM Certificate as well as have their names listed in the Principal’s Weekly Parent Bulletin. The Damascus Lions Club donated copies of the book What Do You Do With An Idea? by Kobi Yamada for this exciting activity. Every fifth grade student will read this book to a small group of students in kindergarten through fourth grade. The fifth grade students will lead a literature circle discussion based on questions that they develop. If the weather is nice, we will be outside. If the weather is inclement, the groups will meet in the hallways and around the building. We are asking each child to bring in a towel on which to sit, whether we are inside or outside that day. Students can start bringing in their towels to school during the week of Monday, April 25. We are deeply appreciative of the Damascus Lions Club for supporting this literary event that centers on our school’s focus on persistence and the growth mindset! Jump Rope For Heart This year's Jump Rope for Heart event was a huge success! We raised a record total of $7,684 for the American Heart Association. A big thank you goes out to all of our Clarksburg Elementary School students and families who participated in our fight against heart disease! Book Fair – Feelin’ Groovy! Thanks to everyone for supporting our “Feelin’ Groovy” spring book fair. Our turnout for Donuts for Dads and Granddads, in conjunction with book fair shopping, was fabulous! All proceeds from the book fair are put right back into our library to benefit all of our students. If students placed paid orders or you placed on online order, those items should be arriving in the next week or so. Thank you again for your investment in reading! 3 Clarksburg Elementary PTA Presents CES Family Night – Spring Dance Theme: Earth Day Pizza and baked goods will be sold by 5th GRADE to help raise money for 5th Grade Picnic and Promotion Where: CES All Purpose Room When: Friday, April 22nd 2016 Time: 7 - 8:30 pm --------------------------------------------------------Cut Here-------------------------------------------------------------Pre Order of Pizza (whole pie) encouraged by Wednesday, April 20th.
