NEW BUSINESS:
5.1
Grimm + Parker presented an updated site plan and updated floor plans for review. Two
options (A + B) for the upper level plans were discussed. Character sketches of the building
exterior were also presented.
5.2
The updated site plan was presented. The bus loop entry and exit were revised to align w/
cross streets for safety reasons. Proposed stadium building locations are indicated along the
bus loop at the gateway to the stadium field. A diagram indicating a potential fence
location showing how the stadium can be secured was also reviewed. The current grading
scheme would allow for ambulance access to the stadium from the pool drive, off Randolph
Road. A path will need to be provided for pedestrian access to the main entrance from the
bus stop at the corner of Randolph Rd. and Dalewood Drive.
5.3
At the previous meeting, there were discussions regarding the number of classrooms on the
upper levels and the concern for the volume of student traffic in the corridors during class
changes. Four diagrams were presented showing the previous corridor layout and potential
layouts for additional corridors. An added corridor bisecting the courtyard is undesirable
due to the difficulty to supervise the corridor and it would obstruct sunlight into the
courtyard. The desired diagram adds a cross corridor along the diagonal axis that existed
on the first floor. Spaces along this corridor would get borrowed daylight from the courtyard.
Additionally, classrooms were moved to the main north/south corridor (to the east) to help
activate this corridor and reduce the volume of traffic on the other corridors.
5.4
The first floor plan (the same for both Options A and B) was presented. Comments are as
follows:
• Dance needs to be moved from the music wing back to the PE wing (2nd floor).
• Child Development should remain in the PE wing.
• Childcare transportation schedule occurs between 8:00-8:30am and 12:001:00pm; schedule must be coordinated with bus schedules for Wheaton & Edison
HS.
5.5
The second and third floor plans for Option A were presented. In this scheme the humanities
classrooms, IGCS and AOIT academies are located on the second floor, and the science
classrooms, Bioscience and Engineering academies are located on the third floor, with some
general classrooms as well. This was the preferred arrangement of classrooms.

5.6
The second and third floor plans for Option B were presented. In this scheme the
Engineering and AOIT academies are located on the second floor, along with general
classrooms, and the Bioscience and IGCS academies are located on the third floor, along
with general classrooms. Science is split between floors. This option was not preferred.
5.7
Character sketches of the building exterior were presented. Exterior materials would include
brick, metal panel and glass. Comments on the elevations are as follows:
• The stair towers are indicating lots of glass. Be careful to manage the heat gain in
the stair as these spaces are not conditioned and can become uncomfortable.
• Focus on the Randolph Rd. building corners – provide as much glass as possible on
southeast corner.
• The main entrance (west side) should be more prominent. Will need at least 3 or 4
double doors.
• Design team will investigate the use of neutral metal panel colors for the exterior.

p.m. at Thomas Edison School of Technology.
