Summary of Changes
 The measure name was changed from Maternity Care: Primary C-Section Rate to
Maternity Care: Cesarean Section Rate
 Exclusions for multiple gestation, non-vertex position and stillbirth were removed.
These deliveries are not included in the eligible population definition.
 Removed coding tables and replaced all coding table references with value set
references.
Description
The percentage of nulliparous women with a term, singleton baby in a vertex position
delivered by cesarean section

Medical Doctor (MD), Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), Advanced
Practice Registered Nurses (APRN)

Event/Diagnosis
Female nulliparous patient with a singleton, vertex positioned
delivery performed by an eligible provider in an eligible specialty
during the measurement period
Denominator
The eligible population
Numerator
The number of patients in the denominator who delivered by cesarean section
Calculated Exclusions
The following exclusions are calculated and applied after data submission:
 Patient had a preterm delivery of less than 37 weeks gestation
 Patient did not have at least one prenatal care visit within the delivering medical
group prior to the onset of labor
