CAPTAIN JAMES E. DALY JR. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL COMMUNITY NEWSLETTER MARCH 2016 The Principal’s Corner We have several opportunities for parents to participate in school events. Please consider coming to our Reading Night on March 10, 2016. Also, we are offering math information workshops, which are called Morning Math with Muffins. Please see the dates for your child’s grade level, as well as other parent opportunities under “Upcoming Events.” A series of parent literacy workshops are being offered from our MCPS Parent Academy. The workshops will be held on March 7, 14, and 21 at Seneca Valley High School. The workshops are free and childcare and interpretation services will be provided. Please see the attached information flyer for registration details. Kindergarten Orientation for incoming Kindergarten students will be held on Tuesday, May 3rd and Wednesday, May 4th. On those days there is no school for our current Kindergarten students. If you know anyone whose child will be five by September 1, 2016, please have them call 301.353.0939 to make an appointment for Kindergarten Orientation. We have had some recent changes with our PTA. Due to the resignations of three board members, we held elections last night for these positions. Our new PTA president is Tami Belouin, Richard Mann is vice president, and Simone Perry-Brackens is secretary. Congratulations and thanks to these new board members for stepping into these important roles for the remainder of this school year. In addition, we would like to thank Denise Franklin, Nathan Franklin, and Courtney Mollman for their dedication and service to our PTA and our children. As a result of the PTA changes, it is unfortunate that we announce that International Night will be canceled this year. We hope that we will continue this important tradition next year.
