NEWBORN SCREENING: Pre-Transfer Checklist Transferring a newborn can be hectic. Please remember: collect the newborn screening DO specimen before the infant leaves with the transport team — even if the infant is <24 hours old. notify the receiving hospital/unit of the DO newborn’s screening status. *If a pre-transfer specimen was collected at <24 hours, the receiving hospital/unit will need to make arrangements to collect a subsequent specimen on their own screening card when the infant is >24 hours old. assume the receiving facility will DON’T collect a newborn screening specimen; it is the transferring facility’s responsibility to collect the initial screen. *For infants being transfused, the pre-transfusion specimen will allow for accurate interpretation for the disorders affected by transfusion and the post-transfusion specimen will be used to screen for the remaining disorders. Together, the two specimens will make a complete screen.
